The chambermaids of the Be Live hotel in Costa Teguise have decided this Thursday to "intensify the fight" and toughen the strike that began a week ago. Until now, this strike is being carried out with daily one-hour stoppages, but from next week they will start a calendar with 24-hour stoppages. For the moment they have already planned to carry out two consecutive days of complete strike, continuing the rest of the days with one hour of stoppage.
These new measures have been approved unanimously in assembly "in the face of the silence" of both the Globalia group, which owns the hotel, and the external company on which they depend and which is in charge of the cleaning service, Genser SL. From Comisiones Obreras they consider "incomprehensible" the lack of response and affirm that every day "many rooms" are not being made and that "the common areas of the hotel have not been cleaned for five days".

Even, they assure that the tour operators have told them that there are "several cancellations" in the hotel and that clients who were already staying are asking for their money back. However, the company continues without attending to the demands of the chambermaids, who demand that the "unbearable workload" they endure be reduced. In addition, CCOO denounces that the hotel is trying to "replace the strikers with new workers to minimize the effects" of the stoppages.
"Overwhelmed by the support and encouragement"
At the same time, however, they also point out that they are "overwhelmed by the support and encouragement they receive from workers throughout the state", and also from local businessmen who are "contributing prizes" for the raffles they are organizing, with raffles to raise funds for these workers, who will see their salaries reduced with the strike.
Similarly, CCOO has also announced that workers from another hotel in the chain have decided to join this fight. These are the chambermaids of the Hotel Be Live La Niña in Tenerife, who will also begin protest acts this Friday. In addition, they explain that this strike is receiving the attention of international media and that German journalists have approached the hotel in Costa Teguise this Thursday to inquire about this labor conflict.
