Inflation rose in January by 3.4% nationwide, three tenths above the rate recorded in December, due to the increase in the price of electricity and food, which rose one tenth compared to the previous month and stood at 7.4%.
In the Canary Islands, inflation increased by 4%, the highest rate in the country, an indicator that did not suffer monthly or accumulated variation.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has confirmed the general inflation data advanced two weeks ago and also the underlying inflation (excluding energy and fresh food), which at the national level moderated two tenths and stood at 3.6%, which is the lowest rate since March 2022.
The foods that rose the most in January in the interannual rate were oils and fats, 43.2%; legumes and fresh vegetables, 15.6%; fresh fruits, 13.7%; and pork, 12.4%.
