The Canary Islands' economy is growing much faster than the Spanish economy

In the first quarter of 2023, the Canary Islands' GDP grew by almost 3%, while the national average was 0.5%.

In the first three months of 2023, the Canary Islands' GDP grew by 2.9% compared to the last quarter of last year, while nationally the economy experienced a growth of only 0.5%.

The data available by autonomous communities reflect the following variations: Andalusia (0.7%), Navarra (0.3%), Basque Country (0.4%) and Catalonia (1.2%).

The GDP generated by the Canary Islands' economy registered a year-on-year growth of 7.4% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. This figure, known as the real GDP variation, was 3.6 percentage points better than that recorded by the economy.

To date of this publication, the regional statistics offices that have published GDP data for the first quarter register the following growth rates: Andalusia (3.6%), Navarra (2.4%), Basque Country (2.2%) and Catalonia (3.0%).
