The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has thanked this Wednesday the Lanzarote company Cicar (Cabrera Medina) for its involvement in the fight that the inhabitants of La Graciosa and the City Council itself are carrying out so that the title of Eighth Island of the Canary Archipelago is officially recognized.

He did so during the presentation in La Villa of the lettering that the vehicles of the well-known car rental brand will carry throughout the Canary Islands, in an interesting and original campaign that was already known and whose main objective is that the name of the eight inhabited islands circulates throughout the geography of the islands and is recognized not only by residents but also by the millions of visitors who come every year to admire and enjoy the many excellences of the Archipelago.

In addition to the seven islands, Cicar has seen the need to add the name of La Graciosa to its campaign, and has done so with the help of local artist Ildefonso Aguilar, who has been in charge of designing the logos. In total, there will be a thousand vehicles that will carry the name of the Eighth Island through every corner of our geography.

"We are very proud that this company, which has had enormous and deserved distinctions over the years such as the Canary Islands Medal this year, has become involved in a claim as fair as the one raised by the people of La Graciosa, which is none other than that they be recognized as the true Eighth Island. No one doubts the links that exist with Venezuela, but no one should doubt that if at the time La Graciosa was not treated as the first inhabited island of the Archipelago, taking into account that it is the first one you find when coming from Europe, now at least they have to recognize it as the Eighth, and we are all in that fight," explained Oswaldo Betancort.

For the mayor of Teguise, it is worthy of admiration that a leading company such as Cicar not only cares about increasing its volume of business but also gets involved in the social aspects of its land, especially those that have to do with Lanzarote. "From sports to culture, through social issues, we know that we can always count on the family of the Cabrera Medina group, and once again they have responded. We are talking about a fantastic logo, with a design up to par with what is expected and that will be next to the name of Lanzarote and the rest of the islands," he said.

For her part, the councilor delegate in La Graciosa, Alicia Páez, also praised the work of Cicar and its representatives, as she also did with the logo that Ildefonso Aguilar has designed. "For the people of La Graciosa it is very important that what we are asking for is understood and that we are helped, and what this company is doing is a way not only of recognizing us as the Eighth Island but also of others ending up recognizing us as such," she explained. For her, any contribution that is made in this sense is tremendously valuable to repair an injustice that has been maintained over time and that seems that could be repaired soon.
