The Canarian Executive has just published two calls for subsidies to Canarian cinema, which total a budget of 1.8 million euros.
This amount will be allocated to film and television productions proposed by professionals from the islands who are selected, both for the development and production of feature films and series; and for the realization of short films.
They also plan to publish another call soon, aimed at minority co-production, which would add another million euros to this sector.
Of the current call, 520,000 euros are reserved for short films and development projects and 1,280,000 euros for the production of feature films and series.
The deadline to submit proposals is from August 17 to September 14 and applications can only be published through the telematic management application.
Who can apply?
According to the rules, the execution periods will continue to be three years for projects in development and short films (until the end of 2025), and four years for the production of feature films and series (until the end of 2026).
Only producers registered in the Register of Audiovisual Companies of the Canary Islands may access them. In the case of Production, the required seniority remains at one year, while for development and short films there is no limit.
Economic Interest Groups that include a producer that has a certificate from the Register of Audiovisual Companies of the Canary Islands can also be submitted.
The projects that are chosen must accredit a sufficient presence of Canarian professionals in certain “key positions” of the production. Other relevant positions (which change depending on whether the project is fiction, animation or documentary) obtain additional points, but are not a requirement.
The granting of subsidies is multiannual and is part of the Strategy of the Cultural and Creative Audiovisual Industries that is implemented through actions of different departments of the autonomous government.
