A 67.9% of the population residing in Lanzarote has problems making ends meet. This is reflected in the poverty data released by the Lanzarote Data Center, regarding the last quarter of 2023.
Despite the fact that poverty continues to affect a large part of the population, the number of people who cannot make it to the last days of the month has decreased by 4%. In contrast, the number of citizens who can complete the month with "some ease" or "with great ease" has also increased. Three out of ten residents of Lanzarote indicate that they have no economic complications.
In this line, according to data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), the majority of the population (55%) considers that their situation is the same as six months ago. Meanwhile, 29.3% estimate that it is worse than before.
Regarding their future expectations, half of those surveyed believe that they will be the same as now and 23.5% that they will be better.
