The San Bartolomé City Council and Bodegas El Grifo have raised 2,475 euros in the fourth edition of their solidarity wine tasting against breast cancer, an initiative that brought together about 60 people at the Montaña Blanca Sociocultural Center and will donate the funds raised entirely to the Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote (AFOL) and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Lanzarote.
The activity, held this Sunday as part of the awareness-raising actions linked to World Breast Cancer Day, once again combined the promotion of Lanzarote's wine culture with social commitment and support for people affected by this disease and their families.
A tasting of five wines and foods
The gastronomic experience offered a tasting of five wines from Bodegas El Grifo, accompanied by appetizers, dried fruits, and Guatisea cheeses, made in Montaña Blanca. The proposal allowed for the enhancement of the island's wines and local products, with a selection of pairings designed to accompany the winery's different references.
The 2,475 euros raised will contribute to supporting the work carried out by AFOL and the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Lanzarote, entities that offer guidance, accompaniment, and support to people facing cancer and their families.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlights the importance of collaboration between institutions, companies, and citizens to promote initiatives with a direct social impact.
“This fourth solidarity tasting shows that, when we join forces, we can transform a cultural and gastronomic activity into concrete help for those who need it most. We want to thank Bodegas El Grifo for their involvement and the nearly 60 participants for their commitment to this cause,” says the mayor.
Pérez also emphasizes that support for people affected by cancer must be maintained throughout the year, through the promotion of prevention, research, early detection, and comprehensive care. “Solidarity is fundamental, but it is also important to continue supporting the associations that accompany sick people and their families throughout the process.”
For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Mónica de León, values the role of social entities and the importance of initiatives that contribute to making their needs visible and facilitating their continued work.
“Behind every diagnosis there are people and families who need support, guidance, and accompaniment. The proceeds from this tasting will contribute to AFOL and the Spanish Association Against Cancer continuing to carry out essential work in Lanzarote,” highlights the councilwoman.
De León also thanks the public participation and the collaboration of all the people and entities that made this edition possible, recalling that awareness and commitment to the fight against breast cancer must extend beyond commemorative dates.
With this fourth edition, the San Bartolomé City Council and Bodegas El Grifo reaffirm their commitment to social causes and to supporting associations that work directly with people affected by cancer. An initiative that once again demonstrates how the wine culture, local gastronomy, and citizen involvement can come together to contribute to a solidarity cause.
