Sales of retail trade at constant prices, once corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, rose in August by 3.5% compared to the same month of 2024 in the Canary Islands, exceeding the average for Spain, of 3%, according to data published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The jobs generated by this sector also increased in the Canary Islands from August to August, by 1%, although in that case less than in the country as a whole, where employment grew twice as much as in the islands, 2%, according to the latest Retail Trade Indices statistics prepared by the INE.
Organismo que, in a statement, highlights that retail sales at constant prices rose at an annual rate in 15 autonomous communities in August and fell in two.
Revealing that the Canary Islands was the sixth region with the largest increase in sales, although its increase was 3 points lower than that recorded by the one that experienced the highest in the country, which was the Balearic Islands, with 6.6%.
According to INE figures, the archipelago was also quite far from the community that recorded the largest increase in employment in all of Spain, which was Catalonia, with 4.9%.
