The airline Volotea faces a significant three-day strike called by its pilots based in France for September 4, 5, and 6, 2026.
The Spanish company connects Lanzarote with the French cities of Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Paris, and Toulouse.
The strike, promoted by the French unions SNPL, UNAC, and SPL, protests the lack of progress in salary negotiations and workload after years of stagnation.
The strike coincides with the first weekend of September, a key period for holiday traffic between the French market and Lanzarote.
Given that the protest covers pilots based at airports in France (where Volotea's direct connections to César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport originate), flights operated by crews from these bases run a high risk of significant cancellations or rescheduling.
Although some services may be declared minimum services, delays in aircraft rotations will affect the entire island's operations.
Traveler rights if the flight is affected
Since this is a strike by the airline's own staff (not air traffic controllers or airport personnel), European regulations (Regulation EC 261/2004) protect passengers.
In case of cancellation, the company is obliged to offer alternative transport as soon as possible or a full refund of the ticket.
If prolonged delays occur at the airport, food, drink, and hotel accommodation must be provided if the wait requires an overnight stay.
Passengers affected by cancellations with less than 14 days' notice may be entitled to additional financial compensation (between 250 and 600 euros depending on the distance), as it is a strike by the company's own staff.
The airline recommends that people with flights scheduled between France and Lanzarote for those dates check the status of their booking on the airline's app before going to the airport.
