Canary Islands joins the 'zero quota' for new self-employed workers

The Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands has published this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands the regulatory bases for the granting of the zero quota subsidy aimed at self-employed workers.

The call to apply for this aid will be made public in the coming weeks, once the legal procedures have been completed, as well as the computer application for its management, which will be exclusively online, the Ministry of Economy informs in a statement.

All those people who started their activity as self-employed for the first time in 2023 will be able to benefit from the zero quota and request, in this way, that they be reimbursed the full payment of the state flat rate.

This bonus will last for 12 months and may be extended for another year. Those who start this year may also apply for aid at the end of the year, in early 2025.

The Ministry of Economy calculates that nearly 3,500 self-employed workers registered in 2023 may benefit from this subsidy, for which some 2.5 million euros have already been allocated in the budgets of the Autonomous Community.

With this measure, coverage is given to all those self-employed workers who started their activity in the Canary Islands during 2023 and, from now on, also to those of 2024 and subsequent years.

To access the zero quota, it is necessary to be a beneficiary of the state flat rate, which consists of a reduced fee of 80 euros per month during the first year, regardless of the income of the self-employed.

Those self-employed workers who have already been registered since the beginning of 2023 and are covered by the state flat rate during the first year of activity may apply for this aid.

In addition, they must be registered in the autonomous community of the Canary Islands and have no debts with Social Security or the Treasury.
