Aena has appointed Carolina Igal Oneca as director of Canary Islands Group Airports starting next November 1st. A Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Navarra, she has also completed the Senior Management Development Program (PMD) at ESADE.
Igal has developed her professional career at Aena at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat and Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airports, where she has progressively taken on responsibilities of increasing complexity in the areas of operational safety and airport management.
Since 2023, she has been the director of Operations at the Madrid airport, where she has previously held other positions of responsibility such as head of the Operations Division (2021-2023); head of the Operations Control Department (2015-2021); and head of the Aeronautical Security Department (2012-2015).
In her latest role, she has been in charge of the implementation of the remote control of boarding bridges at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, a pioneering project worldwide; and she has led the successful implementation of new European border control requirements, the design of the new Airport Management Center which is now under construction, and the development of airport expansion projects that will consolidate the Madrid hub.
Additionally, she has been in charge of the Engineering and Maintenance, Information Technologies, Security, Operations, and Airport Management Center divisions, where numerous innovation projects have been carried out.
Luis López Chapí, current director of Canary Islands Group Airports, resigns at his own request after four years at the head of the eight airport infrastructures in the archipelago.
López Chapí, who will continue his professional work at Tenerife Sur Airport, has led one of the periods of greatest growth in air traffic in the Canary Islands, consolidating the role of airports as strategic infrastructures for territorial cohesion, economic development, and tourism competitiveness of the islands.
