The Canary Islands Appliance Renovation Plan finishes its first phase with a high citizen response. Tracking data counts to date 24,012 registered people and 2,751 approved vouchers, for a combined amount of 449,770 euros.
To these figures, 1,736 pending resolution vouchers are added, representing another 436,980 euros and reflecting the significant volume of applications processed during the first week of the program's operation. For the second batch, which will be activated on October 1st, the Renove Plan will distribute the remaining funds until the total of 1.6 million euros allocated directly to vouchers is completed, with 800,000 euros in each province and distributed by each island.
The grants are 250 euros for general cases and 450 for people in vulnerable situations, with the aim of promoting the replacement of old appliances with others of higher energy efficiency.
The initiative, subsidized by the Government of the Canary Islands and managed by Femete and Femepa, is also receiving significant support from the commercial sector. The Renove Plan currently has 213 affiliated establishments in the islands and during the first phase, nearly 1,000 purchases with vouchers have already been made in participating stores.
The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed, Manuel Dominguez, points out that "the economy cannot remain in the big numbers. It must also be felt in the daily lives of families. The Renove Plan responds to this idea: it turns the Government's decision into concrete support for the family economy. "Each approved voucher not only reduces the electricity bill of a Canary Islands household, but also activates purchases in our stores and contributes to modernizing the archipelago's appliance stock".
The Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy, Mariano H. Zapata, highlights that the citizen response demonstrates that the energy transition is also built from homes and from the decisions we make every day. "We wanted citizens to be able to participate directly in the decarbonization of the Canary Islands and these initial data show us that there is enormous interest in doing so," says Zapata, who recalls that "replacing an old appliance with a more efficient one means consuming less energy and, therefore, helping to reduce household bills while reducing our environmental impact".
For his part, the president of Femete, Juan Antonio Jiménez Arranz, understands that “this data demonstrates the enormous interest of citizens in improving the energy efficiency of their homes and confirms the response capacity of Canary Islands commerce. The high demand also requires a significant management and attention effort, which we are developing together with Femepa to facilitate access to aid and guarantee the correct functioning of the program on all islands”.
At the same time, the president of Femepa, Patricia Jiménez Marcelo, highlights that “the nearly one thousand operations formalized in the first phase show the involvement of the Canary Islands commercial fabric. The second batch will allow this momentum to continue and expand its effects on local economic activity”.
After the completion of this first phase, the next milestone of the program will be the opening of a second batch of vouchers, scheduled for October 1, 2026, which will allow us to continue meeting the demand for aid applications from this Plan Renove de Electrodomésticos de Canarias until the 1.6 million euros in vouchers are exhausted, 800,000 in each province and distributed by each island.
The Plan Renove aims to incentivize the replacement of household appliances with more efficient equipment. In this way, it favors the reduction of household energy consumption and contributes to boosting the economic activity of the participating commercial establishments.
