The first phase of the listening and debate process on the updating of the Land and Natural Spaces Law of the Canary Islands has concluded with the participation of more than 700 professionals in different forums and working groups, as explained by the Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Miranda.
Miranda has announced that before the end of the year he will make available to the parliamentary groups a first draft to agree on its approval.
The objective of the reform is to adapt it to issues that have arisen after its entry into force in 2017, such as the reform of the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands of 2018, the urban agenda, the demographic challenge, the regulations to combat climate change, the challenges of mobility, territorial cohesion and the economic and financial sustainability of the entire system.
The Minister has detailed the process experienced in the last six months, in which meetings have taken place with the staff of the Government of the Canary Islands and its public companies, as well as with technicians from municipalities, councils and environmental bodies, in a participatory program coordinated by the public company Gesplan.
The first phase of the debate and listening process began at the end of 2023, during the celebration of the annual congress of the Canary Association of Urban Planning Law (ACADUR), and has ended with the last of the three conferences organized by the College of Architects of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro, a meeting to which representatives of professional associations, businessmen, unions and environmental groups have been incorporated.
First conclusions
Specifically, more than 200 municipal and island technicians have participated, as well as thirty experts from environmental bodies, in addition to some 500 professionals in the different conferences organized by the collaborating institutions.
