The new cargo ship from Fred. Olsen, the Bahía Cargo, begins this Tuesday to connect the islands of the province of Las Palmas with the island of Tenerife.

Bahía Cargo thus joins the work that its sister ship, Bentayga Cargo, has been carrying out since May between Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, complementing the circuit by uniting these islands with Tenerife on a daily basis.

The new vessel has a cargo capacity of 1,800 linear meters and 9,000 tons. In addition, it has more than 160 meters in length, two transverse propellers for maneuvering and a maximum speed of 20 knots.

Like its sister ship, the Bentayga Cargo, it is prepared to transport different types of merchandise, including dry goods, those that require temperature control, dangerous goods or those that are considered special because they are of a size or weight greater than the standard; as well as hooked or unhooked cargo units.

Likewise, with this service, customers have the possibility of leaving their merchandise in one port and picking it up directly in another.

Although it has recently joined the fleet, it is not the first time that the Bahía Cargo has sailed in Canarian waters, since in the last week it has been replacing the Bentayga Cargo during its mandatory technical stop

The fleet director of Fred. Olsen Express, Juan Ignacio Liaño, points out that "with the purchase and commissioning of these two vessels, exclusively intended to cover the route, we not only comply with the schedule and the offer that we announced in March of this year, but we also invest in the future and ensure connectivity and supply in the islands."

The company transports an annual average of 1,300,000 linear meters of cargo per year. Between January and October of this year, coinciding with the launch of the new service, it has transported 10% more linear meters of cargo than in the same period of 2023 and 18% more merchandise.
