"All the large transport companies in Lanzarote have joined" the indefinite strike called for this Monday by the National Federation of Transport Associations, as confirmed to La Voz by Artemio Callero, president of the island Association of the sector.
This organization of small and medium-sized road transport companies demands that the Government of the Canary Islands make the use of the tachograph more flexible on the islands, taking into account their insular peculiarity.
Callero has confirmed that, with the exception of small local distributors of beverages and food, "all the large freight transport companies have joined the strike in Lanzarote" and are currently "concentrated in front of the César Manrique airport".

The representative of the transporters in Lanzarote has explained that they are waiting for the results of a meeting that will take place this morning "in Las Palmas with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands".
Following the announcement of the strike by the transport entrepreneurs, the Canary Islands Executive asked the central government to study the possibility of applying partial exceptions in the islands to the rule that obliges transporters to use the tachograph.
For their part, representatives of UGT and Intersindical Canaria have stated that there cannot be an "à la carte" tachograph and have insisted that removing it or modifying the sanctioning regime, as the employers intend, is to give "free rein" to employers to infringe labor rights.
