Lanzarote reached a population of 170,155 residents as of July 1, 2026, which represents an increase of 2,786 inhabitants in the last year, according to the latest Continuous Population Statistics from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Lanzarote's population increase represents 22% of the total for the Canary Islands, whose population grew by 12,205 people in the last year to reach a total of 2,277,705 people in the entire archipelago.
Among the autonomous communities, the Canary Islands had the lowest population increase in the country in the last twelve months, 0.03%.
In the whole of Spain, the population increased by 104,178 people compared to April 1 and stood at 49,801,559 inhabitants.
Spain's population growth was due to an increase in people born abroad, as the number of those born in Spain decreased.
The population born abroad -10,291,807 people- is larger than the foreign nationality population, due to processes of acquiring Spanish nationality.
For its part, the number of foreigners increased by 87,197 people during the quarter, to 7,437,543. The population of Spanish nationality grew by 16,981.
The largest number of new migrants during the second quarter of 2026 were of Colombian nationality (with 34,000 arrivals in Spain), Venezuelan (23,300), and Moroccan (21,100).
For their part, the most numerous nationalities of emigrants leaving Spain were Colombian (with 11,500 departures), Moroccan (10,900), and Venezuelan (5,900).
In annual terms, the estimated population growth was 444,205 people.
The number of households stood at 19,874,860 as of July 1, 2026, with an increase of 58,794 during the second quarter of 2026.
