In general for the whole country, the Government has extended until June 30, 2025, the discounts of up to 100% on land public transport for regular travelers.
In the case of Canary Islands, the agreement includes that collective land public transport will continue to be free for all regular travelers throughout 2025.
The Government will allocate 1,608.7 million euros to finance the extension of the validity of these measures for six months and those that it plans to launch from July 1 to promote the use of collective public transport in daily mobility, as a safer, more reliable, comfortable, economical and sustainable means, as stated in the Royal Decree-Law approved today by the Council of Ministers.
At this point, it should be noted that from January 1, a discount system of at least 50% will be activated to promote the use of shared bicycles.

This extension initiates a transition period to give the definitive boost to collective public transport in daily mobility, delving into the use of more sustainable alternatives that contribute to reducing the use of private vehicles, dependence on fossil fuels and, therefore, polluting emissions.
In 2024, the closing forecast points to a 10% increase in trips, constituting another record in the use of public transport.
In addition, in the last quarter of the year alone, 1,683,934 free Cercanías passes, 616,878 Media Distancia passes and 106,204 Avant passes have been issued. Therefore, the Ministry is preparing to evolve and promote a bonus system that has a greater impact on modal choice.
