Electricity demand in Lanzarote during the first six months of the year reached 348.9 GWh [gigawatt hours], experiencing a decrease of 16.1% compared to the first half of 2019. The reduction in demand on the island was higher than the average for the Archipelago, which recorded a decrease of 10.1% during the first half of 2020, in a context marked by the reduction of economic activity during the state of alarm.
Data by islands indicate that during the semester electricity demand only increased in El Hierro. The largest decreases were recorded in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, while Gran Canaria and La Palma experienced more moderate declines.
Throughout the semester, the energy generated by Endesa at the Punta Grande plant and through its renewable subsidiary, Enel Green Power España, covered more than 91% of Lanzarote's electricity demand, with a production that exceeded 317 GWh.
