Lanzarote currently has more than 5,000 companies and is very close to recovering the business level it had at the end of 2019, the reference year prior to the covid 19 pandemic, when it had 48 more companies than now, according to figures from the Lanzarote Data Center.
However, not all business sectors have behaved in the same way. Between the end of 2019 and the present, the number of companies in the construction sector has grown by 12%, from 403 businesses before the pandemic to 458 at present.
In contrast, the services sector, which accounts for more than 90% of the island's economy, with 4,286 companies currently, still has 2.6% fewer businesses than it had at the end of 2019, when there were 4,399.
For their part, both the agricultural and industrial sectors have added companies, although not as significantly as in the construction sector. The primary sector today has 4 more companies than in 2019, up to 99 businesses at present, while industry has 6 more, up to a total of 169.
