The fall in fuel prices in the Canary Islands since the coronavirus crisis began has been especially noticeable in Lanzarote, which has gone from having the most expensive gasoline in the province to having the best prices, at least in the 98. As for gasoline 95, the price in Lanzarote has also become lower than that of Gran Canaria, although the same is not true of Fuerteventura in this case.
According to information collected by the Cabildo Data Center, the price of gasoline 98 in Lanzarote fell from 1.209 euros per liter in January to 1.078 euros per liter last August, after accumulating several falls since March. Thus, although it has also fallen in the rest of the islands in the same period - in Gran Canaria from 1.180 to 1.116 euros per liter and in Fuerteventura from 1.208 to 1.099 - both have now been left with higher prices.
The only island in the Canary Islands that continues to be below Lanzarote is Tenerife, with a price of 1.046 euros per liter, compared to the 1.148 that it cost on that island last January. As for El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, the fall in fuel prices has had less effect and in all of them gasoline 98 is still above 1.2 euros per liter.
Regarding gasoline 95, in Lanzarote it has fallen to below one euro per liter. Specifically, in January it was at 1.102 and last August at 0.982. The price has thus become slightly below that of Gran Canaria, where it sold for 0.989 euros per liter in August. As for Fuerteventura, in this case it is below, with a price of 0.956; while in the other province the same scenario is repeated, with the best price in the Canary Islands in Tenerife and the highest in La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma.
Finally, Lanzarote does continue to maintain the most expensive price in the province for diesel. In this case, it has also been significantly reduced (from 1.059 euros per liter in January to 0.939 euros per liter in August), but it is still above Gran Canaria (0.911 euros per liter) and Fuerteventura (0.833 euros per liter). In fact, the island of Majorera has the cheapest diesel in the Canary Islands, surpassing Tenerife (0.848 euros per liter).
