Lanzarote lost foreign residents while its Spanish population grew by 22%

According to the CEOE, only Fuerteventura gained more Spanish population between 2010 and 2023, but the rate of foreign residents also grew there

The foreign resident population of Lanzarote fell by 0.3%, while the Spanish population increased by 22.6% between 2010 and 2023, according to the latest report from the CEOE of Tenerife 'Monitor of the Canary Islands Economy: Compared insular economic models, inefficiencies and solutions', based on data from the National Institute of Statistics.

Only in Fuerteventura was there a greater percentage increase in Spanish residents (27.3% more) in the same period, but in the neighboring island the resident foreign population also grew, it did so by 23%.

The only other island, in addition to Lanzarote, that lost resident foreign population was La Gomera, with a decrease of 15.4% in the last thirteen years.

Meanwhile, the percentage of foreigners grew very similarly in Tenerife (+22%), where there are more than 144,000 foreign residents, as in Fuerteventura, La Palma and El Hierro, which experienced increases of 23% between 2010 and 2023.

La Palma, for its part, is the only island that presents a decrease in its Spanish population, with a decrease of 1.6%.
