The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the call for subsidies for investments in the marketing and transformation of fishing and aquaculture products for an amount of 4,699,000 euros within the framework of Priority 2 of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) for the 2021-2027 programming period.
The allocation for this line of aid, co-financed by the European Union, the regional Executive and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, is distributed in 3,815,000 euros for transformation measures in the 2025 and 2026 financial years, as well as 884,000 euros for investment projects in marketing measures for these two years.
The head of the department, Narvay Quintero, highlighted that "the objective of this measure is to support access to the market for fishing and aquaculture products from the Archipelago in equal conditions with respect to the continental territory, so that they can equate their situation to that of the rest of the producers in the sector."
These investments are aimed at promoting the marketing, quality and added value of fishing and aquaculture products, as well as the transformation of said products within the framework of actions that contribute to decarbonization and the implementation of more sustainable production systems.
To be considered eligible expenses, these actions must not be materially completed or fully executed before formalizing the application. These include investments that increase energy efficiency, reduce the impact on the environment or improve the sustainable mobility of the distribution of fishing products, as well as safety, hygiene, health and working conditions.
Likewise, actions that favor the circular economy through prevention, optimization of processes, minimization of waste, commercial use of unwanted catches and the transformation of by-products, among others, may be subject to subsidy.
Individuals or entities interested in taking advantage of this call must submit their applications to the Electronic Headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands until August 5, 2025.
