Regarding the purposes of this measure, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the regional Executive, Narvay Quintero, pointed out that “these types of compensations are fundamental to encourage the consolidation of sustainable models in our primary sector, contributing in the long term to the protection of soil, the efficient use of water, the conservation of the Archipelago's biodiversity, and the obtaining of healthier foods”.
The subsidies will cover agricultural areas intended for both the conversion and the maintenance of organic production practices and methods. Through a direct payment per area, the development of a sustainable management system in the Islands is supported, which, through techniques such as crop rotation, adequate livestock stocking rates, the use of organic fertilizers, and the suppression of phytosanitary products and synthetic fertilizers, contributes to the improvement of soil, water quality, erosion prevention, and biodiversity protection.
Those interested in accessing these funds will voluntarily undertake a series of agri-environmental management commitments for a minimum period of five years. Among the obligations are compliance with reinforced conditionality rules, maintaining the certified area under official organic production methods, and implementing practices that reduce environmental impact and promote the regeneration of local ecosystems.
The deadline for submitting applications will be one month from the day following the publication of the extract of this Resolution in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), made on May 28, 2026. Professionals in the primary sector will have this period to formalize their applications through the Electronic Headquarters. The ICCA will have a maximum period of twelve months for the resolution and notification of the call.
