The Association for Rural and Fisheries Development of Lanzarote, ADERLAN, in its role as the island's Fisheries and Aquaculture Local Action Group (GALPA), manages the FEMPA 2026 aid call, a strategic line aimed at financing initiatives that strengthen the economic and social fabric of coastal communities.

For the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years, the Government of the Canary Islands has allocated €255,431.50 to support projects in Lanzarote aligned with the Participatory Local Development Strategy (EDLP). The call for applications, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, will remain open until January 19, 2026

FEMPA aid can finance everything from initiatives for the economic diversification of fishing families —such as maritime tourism, specialized training, or improving product processing— to environmental, cultural, or coastal heritage enhancement actions.

Non-productive projects driven by brotherhoods, non-profit entities, and local administrations are also included, as well as innovative investments and collaboration programs between different territories or fishing groups.

The call is open to freelance professionals, SMEs, community of goods, fishing organizations, brotherhoods, non-profit entities, and public administrations. All projects must be developed within the scope of the EDLP of Lanzarote.

Applications must be registered in person at the ADERLAN headquarters (Carretera Tahíche – San Bartolomé, km 1, Arrecife) within the official deadline.

Projects eligible for aid

Projects for economic diversification in fishing families: maritime tourism, catering, product processing, guided tours, training activities.

Those who value local products and aquaculture, including innovation and improvements in marketing.

Also social and cultural projects, which promote the well-being, identity, and fishing heritage of Lanzarote.

Likewise, initiatives for cooperation between different territories or entities can be subsidized.

The aid is co-financed by the European Union (70%) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty (30%).

An ADERLAN spokesperson explained that "Lanzarote has a real opportunity to continue strengthening its fishing sector and its maritime identity. These grants finance projects and support the entire fishing community at a key moment for advancing sustainability, innovation, and diversification".

Aid of up to 100% depending on the type of project

Funding percentages are one of the main attractions of the call. For productive projects, the aid can cover up to 60% of the investment or reach 85% if it concerns initiatives linked to artisanal fishing or promoted by brotherhoods

In the case of non-productive projects, the subsidy reaches 90% and even 100% if they involve innovation on a local scale or actions of high community value. Projects specific to the FLAG and cooperation projects between territories can also receive 100% of the eligible expenditure
