The CEO of Iberia Express, Carlos Gómez, defended this Thursday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria that the merger of Iberia with Air Europa will not have consequences for the connectivity of the islands, because "the operations done in the past have always been to grow".

In an event organized to celebrate the 20 millionth passenger transported to the Canary Islands by the Iberia subsidiary, Gómez argued that the connectivity of the islands "will not be affected, not in the slightest", because he has the "absolute certainty" that the result of the merger will be "to offer more connectivity" and not the opposite.

Similarly, regarding the increase in prices of flights between the peninsula and the Canary Islands, he argued that Iberia Express is "increasingly putting more capacity in schedules that are not so congested precisely to provide truly economical prices".

Proof of this, he said, is that "on important dates such as Christmas and summer, when there is more demand, additional frequencies are being added even at night", in order to "have affordable prices for everyone".

For Gómez, Iberia Express "has had that sensitivity from the beginning, because in the Canary Islands many people travel out of necessity" so they try to "face that demand, putting all the capacity" they have available, because they are "able to contain those prices" and that is "a high priority".
