Endesa has carried out work throughout this year to install insulation measures on electrical supports in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, in line with the commitment signed with the Government of the Canary Islands to avoid any incident with the specially protected avifauna, mainly the Egyptian vulture.
Specifically, adaptation work has been carried out on ten supports on the island of Fuerteventura and nine in Lanzarote, consisting of the placement of silicone covers on the heads of the metal towers, with an investment of more than 35,000 euros.
The supports on which action is taken are determined by the environmental technicians of the Government of the Canary Islands, depending on the level of risk and the movement habits of the Egyptian vultures.
The agreement between the Government of the Canary Islands and Endesa will allow intervention until 2020 in a total of 57 supports, with a total budget of 105,000 euros, co-financed by both parties, in compliance with the legislation for the protection of avifauna against collision and electrocution in power lines.
