Electricity demand increases by 9.8% in the Canary Islands in October compared to last year

Renewable energies and emission-free technologies contributed 11% of the archipelago's electricity production

Electricity demand in the Canary Islands increased by 9.8% during the month of October compared to the same period last year, according to data released this Friday by Red Eléctrica.

In gross terms, demand stood at 817,021 megawatt hours (MWh), 12.1% more than in the same month last year, an increase that remains at 9.8% once differences in the working calendar and temperatures are taken into account, Red Eléctrica detailed in a statement.

In the accumulated of the year in progress, in the Canary Islands electricity demand has stood at 7,295,363 MWh, which is 2.6% more than in the same period of time in 2022.

Renewable energies and emission-free technologies accounted for 11% of electricity production in the Canary Islands during October, with the contribution of wind energy being 7.2%.

The largest source of electricity generation during this last month was, again, combined cycle, which accounted for 49.3% of the total, Red Eléctrica indicated.
