The war in Ukraine caused a sharp increase in fuel prices. In Lanzarote, the price of gasoline went from costing 1.27 euros in February 2022 to being charged at an average of 1.64 euros in June of the same year, which led the Government to establish a state subsidy per liter of 20 cents, which the Government withdrew at the end of 2022.
During 2023, fuel prices gradually decreased on the island. The most significant decrease has been in diesel, whose cost has been reduced by 9.6% per liter. If at the end of 2022 a liter of diesel cost 1.481 euros, at the end of 2023 it was paid at 1.351 euros.
The decrease in gasoline prices has been less pronounced. Gasoline 95 closed the year with an average price on the island of 1.377 euros, which represents a decrease of 2.8% compared to the price it marked a year earlier when it was sold at 1.416 euros per liter.
Gasoline 98 fell less, 2.01%. The liter of this fuel was paid at the end of 2023 at 1.486 euros, when 12 months earlier it had marked 1.516 euros per liter.
