The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, defended this Monday in Bilbao the need to take advantage of the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence to transform public administrations and improve the services citizens receive.

The head of the autonomous executive highlighted the potential of these tools to modernize public management and stressed the importance of institutions preparing to face the changes posed by their incorporation.

Clavijo participated in the presentation of the Future Government Center (FGC), an initiative promoted by NTT DATA and conceived as a reference space for analysis, innovation, and collaboration around the transformation of public management. During the meeting, he participated in the dialogue The vision of public transformation in the era of AI, alongside the lehendakari of the Basque Government, Imanol Pradales; the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa; and the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno.

After the forum, the Canarian president pointed out that the irruption of artificial intelligence in administrative procedures opens up important opportunities, but also poses challenges that institutions must address responsibly. In this regard, he warned that the incorporation of these technologies must be done with all legal guarantees, especially when the Administration's decisions directly affect citizens.

Clavijo insisted on the need to adapt administrative procedures and structures to this new technological reality. "This is going to go very fast, so we need to catch up soon," he stated, referring to the pace of advances and the importance of administrations being prepared to incorporate them.

The head of the autonomous executive congratulated NTT DATA for the initiative and highlighted the value of public-private collaboration spaces for sharing knowledge, analyzing the challenges of artificial intelligence, and advancing its application to public management.

Likewise, he valued the exchange of experiences between autonomous communities as an opportunity to learn about projects that are already working and to take advantage of improvements developed by other administrations. Clavijo recalled that the Canary Islands maintain collaborative relationships with the territories participating in the meeting, with whom they have shared initiatives and signed agreements in different areas.

In the opinion of the Canarian president, this exchange of experiences is especially positive in a context of accelerated transformation, in which sharing solutions and good practices can contribute to improving the response of administrations to the needs of citizens.

Canary Islands, a pioneer in the application of artificial intelligence to social services

The Government of the Canary Islands is advancing in the incorporation of artificial intelligence into the management of public services, especially in the social sphere, where the Archipelago has developed the first Social Services Data Space in the State and the European Union.

This tool allows for the integration of information from different areas of the regional government, city councils, island councils, and third-sector entities, with the aim of improving coordination between administrations, better understanding the needs of citizens, and moving towards more agile and personalized care.

These initiatives are complemented by new digital applications that facilitate citizens' access to social services, especially in areas such as disability and large families, as well as the Alisio platform, designed to provide psychosocial support to people caring for relatives with dependency, disabilities, or elderly individuals who require care.

The regional Executive also promotes innovation measures in social services aimed at fostering collaboration between administrations, third-sector entities, and technological agents, as well as the development of new solutions to improve care for individuals.

These actions are part of the digital transformation process of social services in the Canary Islands, aimed at streamlining procedures, improving the coordination of public resources, and facilitating a more effective response to the needs of citizens.
