In January, a total of 3,712 tons of cement were sold in Lanzarote, according to data published by the Lanzarote Data Center, based on figures from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute.

This is the lowest monthly record in more than four years, when a total of 3,698 tons were sold in December 2019.

This January, 4.8% less cement was sold in Lanzarote than in the previous month. Sales were also 7.8% lower than those recorded in January last year.

Cement sales, an important indicator of the dynamism of the construction sector on the island, have experienced sharp falls since records soared in the first year of the pandemic. The monthly growth rate was 72% in May 2020.

Therefore, the general decreasing trend that has been occurring since mid-2021 continues, after reaching 8,590 tons in March of that year. During the pandemic period, the absence of tourists led to greater construction and renovation activity.
