The intercity bus lines of Lanzarote most affected by the national drivers' strike this Monday, October 28 to achieve an advancement of their retirement age, are the "line 3, between Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen and line 60, which connects Arrecife with Playa Blanca," Ricardo Hernández, union delegate of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) in Arrecife Bus, explained to La Voz.
However, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has set minimum services of 80%, given that there are no alternative public services for mobility on the island.
The Councilor for Transportation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Domingo Manuel Cejas, in conversation with La Voz de Lanzarote, thanked the drivers for "their responsibility in agreeing to the minimum services in Lanzarote", which are the highest in the archipelago.
Cejas specified that the strike will not be applied during peak hours, but will be applied during off-peak hours: "we have spoken with the representatives of the company committee so that the strike is applied during the hours with fewer frequencies, between 10:00 and 13:00 and between 17:00 and 20:00."
The unions demand that the retirement age of drivers be lowered from 67 years old at present to 60 years old.
Today, October 28, the negotiation groups of employers and unions are meeting in Madrid to reach an agreement.
“If an agreement is not reached today, there will also be a strike on November 11, 28 and 29 and on December 5, 9 and 23,” the union delegate specifies.
