Coalición Canaria Lanzarote and La Graciosa have boasted this Wednesday about the planned investment in healthcare for Lanzarote in the draft General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for next year.
The political party has rejected that certain priority actions, which it describes as "priority" such as the reform of the Insular Hospital or the new Health Center of Playa Honda are not contemplated in the regional accounts. In addition, it has assured that the proposed investments for Lanzarote, which amount to approximately 13.4 million euros, have been attended to practically in their entirety in the draft Budgets of the Canary Islands for 2027.
In one of the volumes of the general budgets of the Canary Islands, the project for the Health Center of Playa Honda, in San Bartolomé, is contemplated, but its budget falls by 81.45% compared to 2026. Specifically, the Canary Executive plans to allocate only 183,500 euros for this healthcare infrastructure, compared to the 989,000 planned in the current fiscal year.
Meanwhile, there is no specific budget item that contemplates the reform of the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote, despite the constant demand from the population to maintain this reference geriatric center in the Canary Islands. The Canary Government does contemplate an increase of 161.6% for works, reforms, and equipment of the Management of Health Services of Lanzarote, going from 2.7 to 7.2 million, but not specifically allocated to reform the Insular Hospital.
Coalición defends that the reform of the Insular is within another item
In this regard, CC has assured that the financing of the projects for the Insular Hospital and the Health Center of Playa Honda is incorporated into an item of 7,224,493 euros (Works, Reforms, and Equipment G.S.S, Lanzarote).
"It is not correct, as the PSOE of Lanzarote has assured, to state that these actions have been left out of the budgets for not appearing individually identified in the general investment table," they insisted.
Thus, Coalición Canaria has defended that, although it does not appear itemized in the budgets, the healthcare investment plan would include, among other actions, 500,000 euros for the drafting of the reform project of the Insular Hospital and one million euros for the first annual installment of the execution of the new Health Center of Playa Honda. "Both actions therefore have financial provision," they insisted.
Likewise, the breakdown of investments includes relevant actions for the island's healthcare network, such as the renovation of the power plant at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, the expansion of the Costa Teguise Health Center, improvements at the San Bartolomé center, and other interventions aimed at strengthening Lanzarote's healthcare infrastructure and equipment.
The party will ask for each item to be specified
Coalición Canaria has announced that it will submit amendments so that the items currently included in broader budgetary concepts "are expressly identified, with the name and specific destination of the projects." "The objective is to reinforce transparency and facilitate the monitoring of the execution of each investment," the party insisted.
The Secretary General of Coalición Canaria Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Pedro San Ginés, has assured that these figures "reflect the commitment to healthcare investment by the Government of the Canary Islands," and insists that "we are going to present the necessary amendments so that some of these investments appear identified by their names and surnames. We want there to be no doubt about the destination of the resources and for Lanzarote to continue advancing in the improvement of its healthcare infrastructure."
The nationalist party has claimed that the island exceeds 13 million euros in healthcare investments, the same as last year, a figure that, it insisted, "contrasts with the approximately four million euros annually on average that the previous regional Executive allocated, when the PSOE of Ángel Víctor Torres and Dolores Corujo presided over the Canary Islands and island government, and Nueva Canarias held the Ministry of Finance."
"Furthermore, the evolution of healthcare investment in Lanzarote also shows the difference between the policies of both Executives," he added. "Compared to the 15 million euros allocated to the island during the four years of the so-called Pacto de las Flores, the current Government of the Canary Islands, presided over by Fernando Clavijo, has already allocated 40 million euros," he concluded.
