Canary Islands strengthens economic ties with Senegal

The African country is experiencing strong economic growth of around 10% per year

Proexca, Gesplan and the Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands have organized a mission in the Canary Islands this week for the Senegalese public agencies of sectors such as urban planning, environment, tourism, agriculture and forestry, establish collaborative ties with the related regional institutions and the companies of these sectors that want to promote their projects towards the Senegalese market.

For the Canarian companies that have registered for the meetings with the delegation of Senegal, it is an opportunity to explore one of the markets with the most growth potential on the African continent, such as Senegal, as pointed out by the forecasts of the International Monetary Fund for 2025, giving it an expansion of 9.3%, or the African Development Bank, with a projected growth of 10.2% in 2025.

“I am convinced that we will strengthen ties and important conclusions and professional relationships will emerge from this mission, which will bring benefits both to you and to the companies of the Canary Islands that are going to visit and learn about these days. We hope to continue strengthening the ties that unite us in collaboration and creation of synergies and open new opportunities to continue growing and learning together,” said the executive director of Proexca, Pablo Martín Carbajal, at the welcoming ceremony for the Senegalese delegation.

For his part, Miguel Ángel Pérez Hernández, CEO of Gesplan, highlighted the importance of this public-private collaboration when positioning itself in multilateral bidding markets where the experience of Canarian companies can be very valuable.

“These close relationships that we are establishing with Senegal allow us to be optimistic and favor the participation of Canarian consortiums. To this end, it is essential to know the needs and priorities of the Senegalese public agencies participating in the mission, since the challenges that Senegal has in these sectors are very important,” he pointed out.

The group was divided during yesterday afternoon according to interests; one part visited the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to address aspects related to port activity and the flow of cruises, and another part visited the García Sanabria Park and Palmetum, to address improvements in mobility and actions in urban areas.

During today, the group is also divided to meet with different related agents and visits; meetings with Tourism of Tenerife, EXCELCAN - Association for Research, Study and Excellence of the Tourism Sector in the Canary Islands-, visits to the Teide National Park, the Renewable Energy Project of the La Gran Manzana Shopping Center or the Island Solid Waste Plant - P.I.R.S. in Tenerife.

As part of the visit, tomorrow the group will travel to Gran Canaria and a public event has been organized where the national strategy for tourism development of Senegal will be presented and subsequent meetings will be held at Casa África with interested companies from the Canary Islands.

In the afternoon, one part will visit the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands with several related public and private companies, and another part will visit the south of Gran Canaria with the help of Tourism of Gran Canaria. On the last day, the group will visit the cadastre, and GRAFCAN, geographic information and land planning systems.
