Canarians will allocate 6.7% of their disposable income to pay the electricity bill during this year 2022, a figure that is above the national average of 6%, according to the latest study conducted by the Selectra rate comparator.
Specifically, Selectra predicts that the average annual electricity bill in 2022 will be 1,344 euros, so Spaniards would have to dedicate 5.92% of their income -which at the national level is 22,706 euros, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of Finance- to pay for their energy consumption.
This percentage has increased compared to 2021, when the average annual amount was 942.49 euros per year, and 4.15% of income was allocated.
The islands, one of the regions that will make the greatest efforts
As a result of the increase in energy prices, this increase is repeated in all autonomous communities. However, Canary Islands is one of the communities that will have to make the greatest efforts, although below others such as Extremadura, Andalusia or Castilla-La Mancha.
According to the data handled by the comparator, Extremadurans will use almost 7.6% to pay the electricity bill, followed by Andalusians, who will allocate around 7%. Castilla-La Mancha will allocate 6.8% to the electricity bill and the Canary Islands, 6.7%.
For their part, the lowest data are recorded in the Basque Country (3.5%) and Navarra (3.8%).
