The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands has definitively resolved the call for subsidies for innovation projects in priority areas of the Canary Islands' Strategy for Smart and Sustainable Specialization (RIS3 expanded), managed by the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI). The resolution finances 24 business projects with an allocation of five million euros, co-financed by 85% by the FEDER Canarias 2021-2027 Program, exhausting the total available credit.
The call represents a significant advance compared to the previous edition. In 2025, it allowed the financing of ten projects with an allocation of two million euros, while this year the budget amounts to five million, which has made it possible to support 24 business initiatives linked to strategic areas for the economic development of the Canary Islands.
The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, highlighted that this growth has allowed a significant expansion of the call's scope. "In a single edition, we have increased the allocation by three million euros, which has allowed us to more than double the number of supported projects, going from ten to 24. Furthermore, the 203 applications submitted demonstrate that there is a business ecosystem with the capacity and ambition to innovate, which encourages us to continue strengthening these types of calls".
The grants support areas such as artificial intelligence, industrial digitalization, energy transition, the blue economy, health, sustainability, mobility, smart tourism, or technologies applied to the primary sector, strengthening companies' capacity to transform knowledge into products and services with economic and social impact.
With this resolution, the Government of the Canary Islands consolidates a line of support aimed at strengthening the innovative capacity of the business fabric and accelerating the incorporation of new technologies in strategic sectors, contributing to a more diversified, competitive, and knowledge-based economic model, in line with the objectives of the RIS3 expanded and the FEDER Canarias 2021-2027 Program.
