The new budget of the Government of the Canary Islands incorporates 2.8 million euros to the new General Directorate of Autonomous Workers for the payment of the zero quota to those entrepreneurs who started their activity in 2023 and for those who plan to do so in 2024.
The zero quota for people who start for the first time consists of an aid from some autonomous communities with which 100% of the quota of the new autonomous workers who start their activity is subsidized for up to 24 months. The Canary Islands thus joins the measure already in force, with different variants, in Madrid, Andalusia, Murcia, the Balearic Islands and La Rioja.
The measure is retroactive, since all those people who have started their activity for the first time this year will be able to benefit and will be reimbursed the full payment of the state flat rate (80 euros) in January 2024. The self-employed who start next year will receive the payment at the beginning of 2025, at the end of the year.
During the first and second year of activity, the new self-employed workers in the Canary Islands will have 100% of their social contributions subsidized. This aid will last for 12 months, which can be extended to another 12 in case of having net income lower than the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI).
The main requirement to access the zero quota is to be a beneficiary of the state flat rate of 80 euros, among others. The intention of the Government of the Canary Islands, with this measure, is to achieve the economic savings of those who start.
The vice president and Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez explained that the objectives of the new General Directorate of Self-Employed Workers are to help those who want to start an activity; to support those who have already started it, and to improve the social protection of the self-employed by giving them a second chance.
