The Plenary of the Cabildo of Lanzarote initially approved the regulatory bases for the granting of subsidies, on a competitive basis, aimed at covering the expenses of rent and other expenses linked to the operation of properties used by non-profit entities for the development of social intervention activities in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, pointed out that this measure addresses many social entities that sustain essential services from rented premises or spaces that generate fixed expenses throughout the year. In this regard, he highlighted that “the Cabildo provides resources where there is direct attention to vulnerable individuals, families, and groups, because behind every open headquarters there is support, intervention, and social response”.
For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, explained that the bases contemplate aid for properties where projects related to childhood and family, equality, gender violence and diversity, addictions, disability or dependency, social inclusion, immigration, and other social intervention projects are developed. “It is about helping to cover essential expenses so that many entities can maintain their activity, such as rent, utilities, basic maintenance, insurance, cleaning, or space adaptation when necessary”.
Acuña also highlighted that these are the third regulatory bases on a competitive basis approved by the Department of Social Welfare during the current term, a line of work aimed at consolidating a subsidy system based on transparency, equal opportunities, and the participation of all social entities. “We want all organizations to know the rules for accessing aid in advance and to be able to compete on equal terms, with objective criteria and a transparent procedure,” he stated.
The minister recalled that these bases will be the ones that regulate the subsidy call corresponding to the 2027 fiscal year, providing entities with a stable framework that facilitates the planning of their activity and their participation in public aid.
The bases establish that legally constituted non-profit entities, with their registered office or permanent headquarters in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and that carry out social intervention activities, may participate. In addition, the property must be intended for the development of these activities and the subsidy will be granted through competitive bidding, with evaluation criteria such as the entity's track record, the volume of in-person actions, co-financing, and the suitability of the property for the social project.
The initially approved agreement will be submitted for public information and to interested entities for a minimum period of 30 days, by announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas.
