The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has approved the call for grants, under a competitive bidding system, aimed at associative legal entities in the fishing sector of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, with a total allocation of 280,000 euros.
The initiative will allow for the reinforcement of the activity of fishermen's guilds, the Organization of Tuna and Fresh Fish Producers, and fishing associations, supporting both their operation and the improvement of their infrastructures and equipment.
The call allocates 130,000 euros to operating expenses and 150,000 euros to investments for the modernization of facilities, acquisition of machinery, improvement of equipment, and other actions that contribute to strengthening the sector's competitiveness. This economic allocation is in addition to the 400,000 euros provided by the island corporation for the acquisition of fishing vessels for the artisanal fleet.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, pointed out that "the fishing sector is an economic, social, and cultural pillar of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and from the Cabildo we continue to promote measures that contribute to its strengthening and modernization. These grants represent direct support to the entities that represent our professionals and guarantee the future of an activity essential for our islands".
For his part, the Minister of Fisheries, Samuel Martín, highlighted that "this call responds to the needs of the sector, providing resources for its daily operation and for undertaking investments that improve its facilities and operational capacity. Furthermore, it incorporates valuation criteria that take into account fishing activity, volume of catches and commercialization, as well as generational renewal and the presence of women in the entities".
The grants will finance operating expenses, personnel, materials, and computer applications, as well as investments aimed at improving first sale facilities, infrastructures, equipment, and transportation of fishery products. Likewise, applications will be evaluated based on objective criteria related to the activity of each entity, favoring a distribution of resources adjusted to the reality of the sector.
Applications can be submitted through the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo for 15 business days from the day following the publication of the extract of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas.
