The port of Arrecife has received a total of 537,889 tourists on cruises between January and November of this 2025, which represents a 7.3% increase compared to last year during the same period, according to data from the Port Authority of Las Palmas.
One out of every three cruise passengers arriving at a state port in the province of Las Palmas docks in Arrecife (32%). The state ports in the eastern province received 1.6 million cruise passengers between January and November.
In November, a total of 124,916 people disembarked in Arrecife on tourist cruises, 1.8% less than the same month last year. The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, attributed the decrease to the Authority's decision to close access to the port during storm Claudia, which resulted in the diversion of 4,000 cruise passengers traveling on three ships.
For the first time in history, the Port Authority made that decision due to inclement weather and the absence of tugboats in port.
With the forecasts of the Port Authority of Las Palmas for this month of December, Arrecife will close 2025 with a volume close to 665,000 passengers, marking a new record for cruise passengers.
De León remarked in a statement that shipping companies continue to show great interest in the port of Arrecife, not only as a home port but also for calls over the next three years. In large part, thanks to the two new passenger terminals inaugurated this year.
