The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, and the director of the entity, Francisco Trujillo, have presented their 2027 Business Plan to Puertos del Estado.
The document, which includes the public body's management report for the coming year, has received the approval of the president of Puertos del Estado, Gustavo Santana, which will allow the public investments planned by the Port Authority of Las Palmas in its ports to be launched.
In the Port of Arrecife, two million euros will be invested to carry out the necessary actions to provide electrical connectivity to the docks intended for inter-island traffic.
Work is also underway on the design of various viable alternatives for the extension of the Cruise Dock in the Port of Arrecife, as well as on the drafting of a Universal Accessibility Plan for the port in order to improve accessibility to its public spaces and buildings.
The Port of Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria, has nearly 25 actions planned, among which the extension of the Reina Sofía Sur breakwater by 200 linear meters and with a depth of -24.70 meters stands out. Thanks to this action, which will involve an investment of 20.5 million euros and whose work is co-financed with ERDF Funds, the interior docks of the port will be sheltered, especially the new berths created on the León y Castillo dock, and more berthing line will be obtained for the repair of oil platforms, which require depths greater than 24 meters.
Another of the planned works is the construction of a new dock attached to the Reina Sofía Sur breakwater of 336.50 meters, which will create a working surface of 15,900m2. The budget for this project amounts to 43 million euros.
Likewise, the Port Authority of Las Palmas plans to extend the Juan Sebastián Elcano Dock by 466 linear meters with the aim of dedicating it to the construction, repair, maintenance, transformation, and development of offshore and/or land-based devices linked to renewable energies, sustainable development, and decarbonization. The work, co-financed with PORT-EOLMAR funds, has a budget of 50 million euros, and will allow for the creation of an adjacent esplanade of approximately 6 hectares.
To improve the bunkering service, a sector that is strategic for the Port of Las Palmas, the Port Authority will build dolphins that allow the docking of ships with lengths ranging from 100 to 400 meters. The works of the project ‘Dolphin between docks’ aim to increase the floating bunkering capacity of the Port of Las Palmas and have an investment of 17.5 million euros.
In the Port of Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, the expansion of the Commercial Dock pier by 250 linear meters is planned; a work of 44.2 million euros co-financed with Feder Funds, which will provide greater shelter to the port's docks, substantially improving the operability of the cruise terminal.
In addition, a ro-ro ramp will be built that will allow ships on the port's regular lines to operate at the new pier. This action represents an investment of 3 million euros.
The Business Plan of the Port Authority of Las Palmas also contemplates an investment of 2 million euros in the Port of Puerto del Rosario for the conditioning of the necessary facilities to establish a commercial route with Tarfaya and two others for electrical connectivity.
On this last island, among other projects, the Port Authority of Las Palmas will condition the access area to the south counter-dock in order to improve the safety and operability of the area, as it has been observed that both the access to it and the incorporation of vehicles leaving towards Olof Palme avenue present maneuvering difficulties and are not comfortable. For this, 460,000 euros will be invested.
Finally, in the Port of Arinaga, in Gran Canaria, the Port Authority will build an esplanade of approximately 5 hectares attached to the Agüimes Dock to improve and increase the operations of ships that transport parts for the installation of new wind turbines on the island. The planned action has a financial allocation of 50 million euros.
In addition, 2 million euros will be invested in the urbanization of the expansion lands of the Port of Arinaga, in order to have large areas for the storage of large-sized parts that are currently being unloaded at the port.
