There will be no Arrecife Bus strike this Holy Week. The workers have reached a preliminary agreement with the bus company this Wednesday, March 28, as Ricardo Hernández, union delegate of Comisiones Obreras, has informed La Voz.
"We have reached a very beneficial preliminary agreement for the employees and the agreement will be signed on April 20," said Hernández after leaving the meeting with the management of Arrecife Bus. "We want to convey this to society so that users are calm," added the union delegate.
As will be recalled, Comisiones Obreras and Intersindical Canaria announced stoppages in the intercity transport services of the island from April 3, coinciding with the beginning of Holy Week. The company employs 120 people, through a concession from the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
In a statement, both union forces indicated that the strike responds "to the company's refusal to meet their salary demands and organization of the working day and rest times" in the negotiations they have been holding since last November to renew the collective agreement.
The unions stated that there has been little progress in the various matters, as well as the "significant precariousness" in which the service has been provided and the loss of purchasing power suffered by workers in recent years.
