The municipalities of Arrecife and Teguise have also joined in offering tax breaks for the installation of renewable energies to their citizens.
In the case of Arrecife, they have gone a little further and have also considered bonuses for companies that reduce their carbon footprint. With this new addition, six of the seven municipalities of Lanzarote are already promoting non-polluting energies with tax cuts for their taxpayers.
The IBI (Property Tax) offers discounts in most municipalities, both for photovoltaic and solar thermal installations, and the novelty is that several municipalities are starting to include discounts not only for citizens but also for economic activities.
The municipalities that offer the most bonuses in their collection of the IBI to companies are Tías and Arrecife with a 20% discount, although the percentage increases if it is for residential use and reaches 50% in Haría, San Bartolomé, Teguise or Yaiza.
In other taxes, such as the ICIO (Construction Tax), San Bartolomé is the one that offers the most bonuses with 80%, followed by Tías and Yaiza. But the one that really leads the bonuses is the Municipality of Tías, which includes discounts in all its sections: IBI for photovoltaic and solar thermal both in residential and companies, vehicle tax according to engine, ICIO and IAE (Economic Activities Tax).

Single Window for Renewable Energies of Lanzarote
The Single Window for Renewable Energies (VUER) is an information and support service in the processing of legalization and subsidy files that covers from the moment of application to the installation of renewables.
It is fully financed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through its Energy area, and is provided in the facilities of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa since 2017. It has been in this year of 2024 when, due to the great demand for the service, the Cabildo has decided to provide more resources to increase the service.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, acknowledges that "governments must accelerate and facilitate the implementation of renewable energies to help reverse a fatal trend in matters of climate change. This idea has even greater force in places like Lanzarote, which we must set an example as a tourist destination," he says.
There is still much room for improvement in the bonuses that are being applied and especially in the treatment of companies. But from the VUER, the expectations are optimistic, since little by little more promotion and support measures are being incorporated in this line.
From the Single Window for Renewable Energies, in addition to supporting the implementation of green energies, we are working on the constitution of a local Energy Community together with the Cabildo and the municipalities of Lanzarote.
