The Department of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture, through the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), has announced grants aimed at supporting Innovative Business Groupings (AEI) or clusters in the Canary Islands for the development of innovation activities during the 2027 fiscal year.
The call for applications, published this week in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, has a budget of 300,000 euros and will allow for the promotion of new projects aimed at strengthening the innovative capacity and competitiveness of the Archipelago's business fabric.
The grants will finance both projects developed by a single cluster and initiatives carried out in collaboration with the companies and entities that form part of these groupings. As a novelty, they will also support the preparation of proposals intended to compete in national and European calls, enabling entities to plan larger-scale projects and opt for new competitive funding opportunities.
The Minister of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, highlighted that "incorporating support for project preparation for national and European calls allows clusters to face a decisive phase with greater guarantees for accessing competitive funding. It is a measure that strengthens their capacity to promote larger-scale initiatives and generate new innovation opportunities for Canary Islands companies".
The call includes two types of actions: projects promoted by the innovative business grouping itself and projects developed in cooperation with between one and five entities belonging to the cluster. In both cases, the grants will cover 100% of the eligible expenditure, with amounts ranging from 10,000 to 75,000 euros, depending on the type of action.
Machín also emphasized that "clusters play a strategic role because they facilitate collaboration between companies, knowledge centers, and other agents of the innovation ecosystem. Strengthening this cooperation capacity means creating better conditions for ideas to be transformed into projects with economic and social impact for the Canary Islands".
Innovative Business Associations or clusters that meet the requirements established in the regulatory bases will be able to access these grants. The deadline to submit applications will remain open from October 1 to 31, 2026, unless the available credit is exhausted beforehand. Processing will be carried out electronically through the headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.
