The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and the United Nations Global Compact Spain will organize a conference aimed at SMEs to raise awareness about sustainability policies, under the title "Environment, social impact and good governance. The role of SMEs".

The conference will take place telematically on June 7, at 9:00 in the morning, through a link to Zoom. Its content will focus on the areas of environment, social impact and good governance and will offer participating SMEs resources, tools and free templates for the development of Codes of Ethics and Environmental Policies, which will allow them to advance in terms of sustainability.

Clara Arpa, president of the United Nations Global Compact Spain, believes that "without sustainable SMEs, there will be no real transformation, they are key to, for example, ensuring the prosperity of the territories, generating employment or offering training and professional career development opportunities. We know they need more resources and we want to give them to them, therefore, initiatives like this with the Chamber of Commerce are essential for everyone."

This awareness and training forum, held for the third consecutive year, is part of the collaboration agreement between the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the United Nations Global Compact to inform SMEs about the need to adopt business strategies committed to sustainable development, but also to help them advance in the implementation of the SDGs and the Ten Principles of the Global Compact.

"Large Spanish companies are positioned as sector leaders in sustainability at a global level, but in an economy like the Spanish one, in which SMEs represent 99.6% of the business fabric and 60.4% of employment, the implementation of sustainable management models in SMEs is key," added the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote.
