The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) has celebrated that all the municipalities of the island have grown in number of companies during the year 2022. According to data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), there are currently 4,991 entities active among the seven municipalities, 96 more than at the end of 2021.
The president of the CEL, Francisco Martínez, values this data as positive for entrepreneurs, businessmen and workers, although he highlights “the need for public administrations to cooperate more efficiently with support for entrepreneurship, projects that promote the entrepreneurial character of people and with effective plans to consolidate quality employment in Lanzarote”.
The president expresses his satisfaction with the palpable economic recovery of the island after the pandemic, “but the previous level of business has not yet been reached after two years of closure of tourist activity and now the profits are being lower due to the skyrocketing increase in costs”.
The municipality with the most growth has been Yaiza, where 28 new companies have been created, leaving a total of 636 entities (4.5% more than last year). In percentage terms, Yaiza is followed by Tinajo (3% more), Haría (2.8% more), Tías (2.6% more), San Bartolomé (2.2% more), Teguise (2% more) and Arrecife (0.6%).
