Líneas Romero has presented its new vessels this Thursday, the María Rosa R. and the Juan Jorge R.. With these two additions, the company continues to advance in the modernization of its fleet and reaffirms a way of understanding maritime transport based on innovation, quality of service, and sustainability.
With almost a century of experience, Líneas Romero has made innovation one of the pillars of its growth. The incorporation of the María Rosa R. and the Juan Jorge R. is part of the fleet renewal strategy that the company has been promoting for years, thanks to which 85% of its units are less than eight years old. Vessels such as the Juanita Cat, the Don Juan R., the Alexandro R., and more recently, the Luis R., have been incorporated into this process, consolidating a continuous commitment to improving the passenger experience, optimizing operational efficiency, and responding to the new needs of maritime transport in the Canary Islands.
As is tradition in the company, all vessels bear the names of members of the Romero family. A tribute to those who, generation after generation, have contributed to writing the history of Líneas Romero and transmitting the values that continue to guide this family business. In this case, it is the turn of two of the Romero siblings, Juan Jorge and María Rosa.
The presentation and christening ceremony, held at Marina Lanzarote, was attended by the Vice-Minister of Universities and Innovation of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ciro Gutiérrez; the Minister of Economic Promotion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Nori Machín; and the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León; as well as the Mayoress of Teguise, Olivia Duque; the Mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez; and the Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz. Alongside them, a large group of representatives from the business and maritime sectors were present.
Innovation at the service of the passenger experience and connectivity
The María Rosa R. will reinforce the company's excursion activities, especially on the routes to Papagayo and sunset departures, incorporating improvements designed to enhance the quality of the customer experience. Its design prioritizes comfort during navigation, accessibility, spacious panoramic decks, and a more agile and digitized boarding process, responding to the demands identified by the company through its customer satisfaction studies.
For its part, the Juan Jorge R. joins the regular line between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with capacity for 350 passengers, strengthening Líneas Romero's operational capacity for both passenger and cargo transport and contributing to improving connectivity between both islands.
Both vessels have been built with reinforced fiberglass, a material that significantly reduces the weight of the ship and allows for lower fuel consumption compared to previous generation vessels. In addition, they are equipped with latest-generation MTU engines, which comply with current international regulations on emissions and optimize energy efficiency, in line with the sustainability strategy that the company has been promoting for years through the measurement of its carbon footprint, Biosphere Committed certification, and the Excelsior recognition from Soy Canary Green.
The construction of both units has been carried out in specialized reference shipyards. In the case of the Juan Jorge R., its construction was carried out by Astilleros Gondán (Asturias), with whom Líneas Romero has maintained a collaborative relationship for more than a decade. The María Rosa R. was built at Day 1 Catamarans (La Rochelle, France).
The Minister of Economic Promotion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Nori Machín, pointed out that “the incorporation of the María Rosa R. and the Juan Jorge R. demonstrates the capacity of a Lanzarote company with almost a century of experience, to continue growing from the island with investment, employment and quality of service.” Machín highlighted that “Líneas Romero is part of the island's economic fabric and its evolution is also a reflection of an island that is advancing with solid, family-owned companies linked to the territory.”
The Deputy Minister of Universities and Research, Ciro Gutiérrez, congratulated the entire Líneas Romero family and noted that “today not only are two new vessels added, today this company continues to look forward, investing, improving and, above all, trusting in this land and its possibilities.” He added that “Líneas Romero once again demonstrates that tradition and innovation can go hand in hand. When a company knows its origins, when it knows where it comes from, it moves more firmly towards where it wants to go.”
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, stated that "I want to congratulate Líneas Romero for this important step forward with the incorporation of these two new boats, which are a reflection of the capacity for innovation and the commitment of a company deeply linked to our island. It is an enormous satisfaction that this double presentation coincides, moreover, with the celebration of the Fiestas del Carmen, so tied to our seafaring tradition and the identity of Arrecife. And I take this opportunity to throw down a gauntlet to the Romero family: hopefully, we can soon make a reality a project that allows us to discover our capital from the sea, because Arrecife has a unique perspective that deserves to be enjoyed by both those who visit us and those of us who live here."
The CEO of Líneas Romero and president of the Líneas Romero Foundation, Federico Romero, wanted to thank "the presence of all those who accompany us today and, especially, the trust that our clients place in Líneas Romero year after year. It is that trust that drives us to continue investing in innovation, in an increasingly efficient fleet, and in offering the best possible experience to every person who travels with us."
With the María Rosa R. and the Juan Jorge R., Líneas Romero continues to renew a fleet that combines tradition and innovation to offer more efficient, sustainable maritime transport oriented towards the needs of those who live in and visit the Canary Islands.
