One of the best shows that Spain boasts about takes place in January. Just starting the new year, the Cavalcade of Magi Kings take the streets of all the provinces. These are capable of bringing together in a single encounter the fantasy and excitement of a parade full of lights and color.
The Cavalcade of Magi Kings are special parades that have been held on the eve of the Epiphany, that is, on the night of January 5 to 6. They are currently present in all cities and towns in Spain.
The idea is to receive the Magi Kings in an environment of joy and jubilation that has been alive since Christmas Day and welcome them to the city through a beautiful parade where floats, actors, lighting experts, etc. participate to offer an act full of magic.
The meeting usually lasts about 3 hours and the route it covers is variable from one city to another, especially after the growth that has been had in the structure of the same. However, the most important streets of each place are always taken into account.
Two of the most interesting additions that have been made in recent times is the closing with pyrotechnic shows. In addition to that, it is always sought to involve the public even more, so sweets and candies are scattered throughout the route.
The most remarkable thing of all is that it is an activity for the whole family, especially for the little ones who find in each of the scenarios a show that fills them with illusion.
An extension of Christmas
Christmas is one of the most joyful times in families. It is a reason to celebrate the arrival of the child God and also to meet with loved ones and enjoy a delicious dinner. For children it represents the ideal time to receive gifts.
The fact is that all this festivity does not end there, because the stories of the time say that, days after the birth of Jesus, the Magi Kings came to meet him to bring him gifts. And, taking into account that in our country it is a very important date, there is no better way to commemorate this event than with the Cavalcade of Magi Kings.
Cavalcade of Magi Kings in the cities
Among the cities that hold the parades and cavalcades of Kings in the most impressive way are:
-
Barcelona: is a city that brings together a long history with respect to this topic and we even refer to the eighteenth century, so it can be safely assumed that they have experience in the area. As in many other coastal cities and towns, the Magi Kings are received at a dock, as they arrive through the sea.
-
Madrid: the Spanish capital is not far behind when it comes to this celebration. To achieve a greater impact, the show is prepared making use of the resources that technology provides us, such as sound, effects, lights, even a specific theme and a pyrotechnic show at the end of the tour.
-
Seville: Seville has been present in the celebration of the Cavalcade of Magi Kings for more than a hundred years. Thanks to all the points of the city that are covered, it is considered the longest parade, with an approximate duration of 6 hours.
-
Alcoy: is the oldest place where this activity is carried out, counting within its statistics with about 134 years of validity. The locals put so much effort into its planning that it has already gained recognition as Intangible Property of Cultural Interest. Part of the most relevant aspects of this city is that in addition to sweets they give toys to children.
There is no doubt that attending one of these events is one of the best experiences that can be had and, even more so, because it is the overflowing joy in the streets just starting the year, which gives a very positive and emotional touch to life.
