Fun facts you didn't know about Bitcoin

It's no secret that Bitcoin is in fashion and is here to stay for a long time. However, even though it is the most famous cryptocurrency in the world and its popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, this virtual currency has a number of curiosities that many people are still unaware of.

Nobody knows who its creator is

Believe it or not, Bitcoin is just over ten years old. It was created in 2008 by the mysterious Japanese Satoshi Nakamoto, whose name is just a pseudonym as no one has managed to discover his true identity.

And the Japanese, whose real name has been the subject of numerous discussions on social networks, has not been officially identified yet, despite the fact that the only unanimity is his country of origin. In fact, there are different publications that claim that the person behind the nickname could be a middle-aged man living in California whose name would be Dorian Satoshi.

On the other hand, on networks such as Reddit and 4Chan it has been speculated that the creator of this cryptocurrency would be an Australian businessman named Craig Wright, who has even said of himself that he has the relevant evidence to prove that he is the creator of Bitcoin. However, neither case has been proven.

Global expansion

While Bitcoin was met with the strongest skepticism in its early years, today its expansion has been so impressive that every day there are more companies worldwide that accept Bitcoins in their payments. Of course, a large part of these companies are those that work online.

However, the acceptance of this cryptocurrency has reached the point where in different cities around the world you can already find ATMs where you can convert your Bitcoins into legal tender. And despite the fact that having this cryptocurrency is quite expensive, you can get small portions of it, popularly known as tokens.

Political recognition

Despite the fact that the different governments around the world have been somewhat skeptical about the possible rise of Bitcoin, today the most powerful countries have recognized the power not only of Bitcoin but of cryptocurrencies in general.

It is from this reality that the Federal Reserve of the United States decided to create an official body that, after the closure of the darknet website Silk Road, managed to seize almost 145,000 Bitcoins, an exorbitant amount whose value exceeds one billion dollars.

The first purchase with Bitcoin was a pizza

And yes, far from being a luxury purchase like a house or a car, the first product purchased with Bitcoin was none other than a pizza.

It happened in 2010 when a programmer named Laszlo Havecz decided to negotiate the purchase of a pizza in a well-known franchise. According to different reports, although there was some degree of distrust at the beginning of the negotiation, Havecz managed to convince the seller that this cryptocurrency would represent a fortune in the future, and that the pizza would be a kind of minimum investment for a lucrative project.

It goes without saying that his speech worked and he was able to get the pizza. However, what was incredible is that he had to give 10,000 Bitcoins for it, which today would be no more and no less than 100 million dollars.
