Astrid Pérez has visited the workshop where the Lanzarote sculptor Paco Curbelo has begun to give shape to the piece that will incorporate the eighth island into the sculptural ensemble of the Parliament of Canarias.

The president of the Parliament of Canarias, Astrid Pérez, visited the workshop of the sculptor Paco Curbelo in San Bartolomé (Lanzarote), where the artist has already begun to work on the sculpture that will represent La Graciosa at the main entrance of the autonomous Chamber.

During the visit, Astrid Pérez underlined the importance of completing the representation of the Archipelago in this institutional space. “We could not allow La Graciosa not to be at the entrance of the Parliament. Until now, seven islands have been represented, but with this new sculpture, we will all be there,” affirmed the president, who insisted on the symbolic and territorial value of this initiative.

Likewise, the president valued the choice of Paco Curbelo as the author of the work, highlighting him as one of the most representative sculptors of Lanzarote and Canarias today. Pérez pointed out that his choice responds not only to his professional career, but also to the artist's personal link with La Graciosa and the emotional involvement with which he is approaching the project.

For his part, Paco Curbelo expressed pride in taking on this commission, which he described as an artistic challenge of great responsibility. The sculptor explained that the new piece had to maintain aesthetic coherence with the existing work of the already deceased artist José Abad, respecting his legacy and dialoguing with the current sculptural ensemble.

In this regard, he advanced that the sculpture will incorporate the symbol of the burgado as a representative element of La Graciosa, thus integrating a recognizable icon of the island within a contemporary proposal that harmonizes with the Parliament space.

The new work will be located in the entrance hall of the Chamber, next to the original creation by José Abad, thus completing the representation of the eight islands of the Canarian Archipelago in the seat of popular sovereignty.
