The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has shown his support for the new state of alarm in Spain because it allows the adoption of "proportional measures" taking into account the evolution of the pandemic in each Autonomous Community.
This was reported by the regional government, which recalls that the islands have been excluded from the time limitation imposed throughout the country and which establishes the restriction of movements between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., a measure from which the Canary Islands had requested to be exempt due to their good epidemiological data.
"For the moment, it is not necessary to impose any curfew", Torres pointed out, who considers that with the entry into force of the new state of alarm decree, the autonomous governments have a common framework that offers legal certainty to make the appropriate decisions.
In addition, the top regional leader has stressed that "it allows the adoption of proportional measures, taking into account the evolution of the pandemic in each territory." "And that is correct, because we do not all live the same situation," he remarked.
Canary Islands has the most favorable figures
For its part, the reason why the islands are excluded from the night confinement is that the Canary Islands has the most favorable figures in the entire State in terms of the containment of Covid-19.
Currently, the archipelago registers a cumulative incidence in the last fourteen days of 82.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, being 44.3 cases in the last seven days, figures that are half of what was recorded at the beginning of September.
The positivity at this time is also the lowest in the entire country. Yesterday, only 2.5 percent of the tests performed had a positive result.
Torres highlights the commitment of the Canarians
For the president, if it has been possible to have the most favorable data in the entire country "it has been thanks to the commitment and awareness of the Canarian population, which has complied with the preventive rules that began to be taken in August for the control of the pandemic."
In this regard, he observed that some of those rules that were already taken in the Canary Islands two months ago were the cancellation of nightlife; the limitation of the number of people in meetings; the prohibition of smoking while walking or if the two meters of distance are not kept; the increase in surveillance and the increase in sanctions.
Finally, Torres clarified that "these rules have given good results", however, he insists that "the guard will not be lowered and the measures that are necessary will be taken depending on the evolution of the pandemic in the Archipelago and the indications of the experts."
